<On the scene: Minority Review special correspondents!>

Hello hello!

So yesterday, we made our way to Palladium Mall, Mumbai where Minority Review was invited for a sneak peak (we love to know what is going to happen before it happens) of this year’s CHIVAS STUDIO.

Chivas Studio is an exciting platform that brings together people from different creative fields (fashion, cinema, music, photography, art installation and painting) and gives them the space to create new work that will push their limits further and will give a unique experience to Indian audiences. As Chivas says, ‘Art is Life is Art’ and a life with art is a good life.

The grand finale event will take place in Delhi on the 26th and 27th of this month and in Mumbai on the 10th and 11th of December.

Rajiv Masand was there to introduce us to the participants. Rohan Sippy has been called to direct a 30-minute musical called Fashion Broadway, inspired by 1960’s Bombay (talk about stepping out of one’s comfort zone) for which designers Abraham and Thakore will create the costumes. Ranjit Barot is supervising the music, which will include original songs of that era and will float between soul, swing and jazz sounds. The choreography is created by Terence Lewis (‘nough said!). The actors who will bring the story to life are Hazel Keech (Bodyguard), Ali Fazal (Always Kabhi Kabhi), Rahul Dev (Dus, Ashoka the Great) and Shahana Goswami (Rock On!!, Ra.One) and they will be singing live during the show. We should be expecting images that remind us of the films of that time and give us a flavour of nostalgia but in a very modern context.

Photographer Jatin Kampani is collaborating with artist Paresh Maity in order to create a large scale art installation whilst fusion band Mrigya and live painter Brian Olsen are also going to give us a taste of magic.

All the participants seemed to be very excited about their projects and the ones who are clearly pushing themselves towards new directions are a bit jittery as well. So, let’s wish them luck and inspiration. We are looking forward to the show!
