He’s the actor who gives bad a good name. Most people know him from his role as KC in the film Shaitan. Gulshan DEVAIAH (yes please spell his name right, he hates it when people get it wrong) has also been seen in That Girl In Yellow Boots, Dum Maaro Dum, Hate Story and will soon be seen in his film that went to Cannes this year: Peddlers. Gulshan was recently cast in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s movie Ram Leela that stars Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh.
“It’s an honour to be a part of a Sanjay Leela Bhansali film,” he says. Gulshan adds that he has a fantastic part and it “doesn’t get any bigger than this” saying that SLB is one of the biggest directors in India. “There’s so much detailing in his work, the grandeur and scale is just immense,” adds Gulshan.
And to think, he was unsure about doing the role as he didn’t know if he would be prepared enough for it or thought he would be unable to pull it off. Thankfully, his pretty and smart Greek wife Kallirroi gave him that little boost he needed to take the role and he’s grateful to her for that. “This is the big league and I have to prove myself,” says the actor who is known to be quite intense.
Of the main leads in the film, Gulshan says Deepika Padukone is “super hard working and eager to do good work. Ranveer Singh is a charming guy. Inspite of his injuries he’s giving all his takes perfectly.”
He can’t divulge any details about Ram Leela but in closing Gulshan beams, “This whole project was totally unexpected; I didn’t see it coming. But I’m really enjoying this whole experience.”
There is no official release date for Ram Leela but hopefully you can catch Gulshan Devaiah this year in Vasan Bala’s Peddlers (read Gulshan’s Cannes experience with Peddlers here). He’s also doing another film called Vasu by Harshavardhan Kulkarni soon.
